Teaching

I’m a passionate music teacher with over 3 years of teaching experience. My lessons are creative, engaging and tailored to each individual student.  I have taught music theory, composition, improvisation and class music at Bryanston School, as well as coaching singers and leading ensembles including jazz bands and choirs. Alongside teaching, I have maintained an active performing career for the past 5 years. I believe the best way to learn music is by exploring its core ingredients – rhythm, harmony, melody and expression – and developing these through improvisation and creative music-making.

Singing and Voice

I have been singing all my life and have trained with a wide range of teachers, giving me insight into different vocal techniques and approaches. This allows me to adapt lessons to suit each student. My main speciality is jazz vocals, but I also teach musical theatre, pop and classical styles. As a performer, I help students develop expression, interpretation and stage confidence. I also study the Estill Voice Model, which focuses on understanding how the voice works and developing healthy vocal control.

Music Theory

I studied music theory to an advanced level during my degree and have been teaching theory classes three times a week at Bryanston School, helping students work towards ABRSM Grade 5. I hold a Distinction in ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory and can support students preparing for exams or developing deeper musical understanding. I also teach advanced topics such as jazz harmony and chord–scale relationships.

Composition

During my degree I created a large composition portfolio including orchestration for big band, writing for choir, small ensembles and songwriting. I have taught GCSE composition classes and provided one-to-one support for GCSE and A level coursework. I help students develop musical ideas, structure pieces and write confidently in a range of styles, particularly jazz, pop and vocal music.

Improvisation

Improvisation is central to my musical approach. As a jazz musician I improvise in all my performances and enjoy helping students develop creativity and confidence. I can teach improvisation on a range of instruments and help students understand both the theory behind improvisation and the freedom of spontaneous music-making. At Bryanston School I led a weekly improvisation ensemble exploring jazz, blues and free improvisation.

Jazz Band and Ensemble Coaching

I offer coaching for jazz ensembles or one-to-one tuition to improve ensemble skills. I have led many jazz bands throughout my performing career, from small trios to full big bands. At Bryanston School I directed junior and senior jazz ensembles and helped bands create arrangements suited to their level, focusing on listening, groove, communication and confidence.

I welcome students of all levels, whether you are a beginner starting your musical journey or an experienced musician looking to develop new skills. My aim is to create supportive, inspiring lessons that help every student grow in confidence and creativity.
